The crazy thing about 1437 is that it requires school board members to be mandatory reporters 24 seven while everyone else covered under that statute only has to do it in the course of their employment so it really puts a burden on us as school board members if we were to see things out in the community, we could potentially face criminal liability if we don’t report it? it’s wild!
Great summary. I was surprised however, that you didn't report on the lack of advancement of a new Proposition 123 referral to the ballot for the second consecutive year. With the internal legislator and Governor fights regarding this renewal, it should be highlighted for possible resurgence in the 2026 legislative session. The threats of putting onto the ballot a Prop 123 referral paired with an added Republican provision that would permanently enshrine Empowerment Scholarship Accounts as an AZ constitutional amendment would be an untenable mash-up. We need to be on alert for this as a zombie referral that could be resurrected for next session.
